Request from Exemption

  • You MUST be a RESIDENT of the County for which you are summoned in order to serve; if you DO NOT LIVE in the County for which you were summoned, please provide proof of residency in the form of: valid driver’s license, identification card, or voter registration card reflecting your current address.
  • You MUST be a United States citizen in order to serve; if you are not a U.S. citizen, please provide: current visa, passport, green card, or other legal documents that indicate that the juror is not a U.S. citizen.
  • You MUST be 18 years of age or older.
  • A person who was convicted of a felony and who meets all other requirements for eligibility may be summoned for jury service if the person has successfully completed all conditions of the sentence imposed for the felony, including conditions for probation or parole.
  • If you have served on jury duty in Federal or State court in the last 3 years (36 months) you may request an exemption.
  • If you are 75 years of age of older you may request an exemption.

Request for Excusal

If you have an extreme mental, physical, or financial hardship you may request an excusal from jury service:

  • ALL MEDICAL EXCUSAL REQUESTS must have appropriate supporting documentation: If requesting excusal for medical reasons, please provide a completed Request for Medical Excuse Form, or a doctor’s letter –currently dated, signed and on healthcare-provider letterhead.
  • If you are requesting an excusal due to a financial hardship please submit a letter to the court.

Request for Postponement

  • Postponements may be available: If the date scheduled for your jury service will create a severe hardship for you, you may request a postponement. If granted postponement, when you receive your new summons you will need to again respond by updating your Qualification submission and will be expected to serve at that time.
  • Please do NOT wait until you are scheduled to appear to request needed time off. Please submit in advance, your request for “excusal dates” during your jury service term via: https://jurorportal.nmcourts.gov, or via email, fax, or general mail. Please include your name, juror id#, reason for excusal, and dates.

Permanent Exemption From Service (Age)

New Mexico statutes allow for the permanent excusal of individuals age 75 or over that have received a jury summons. If you fall into this category and would like to be permanently excused, the law requires that you complete an affidavit attesting your age. This document MUST be notarized.
